The platform was established on the basis of the Memorandum of Partnership and Cooperation for the Development of Comprehensive Use of Hydrogen as a Source of Clean Energy in the Ústí nad Labem Region, which was adopted on 19 November 2019.
The aim of the platform is to prepare and implement activities supporting the comprehensive use of hydrogen in the Ústí nad Labem Region, especially the hydrogen already produced in the technological process of local companies and in the future low-emission and renewable hydrogen produced using RES. Hydrogen will be processed, distributed and widely used in the region as a clean, low-carbon energy source.
Platform members include county government, regional businesses, local governments, research organizations and others. The carrier and coordinator of the Hydrogen Platform is the Economic and Social Council of the Ústí nad Labem Region.
Hydrogen has a tradition and a future in the Ústí nad Labem Region. In order to preserve the importance of this region as the energy heart of the Czech Republic and in the context of the energy transition, the Hydrogen Strategy of the Ústí nad Labem Region was created as the first document of its kind in the Czech Republic. The strategy was approved by the Regional Council for Competitiveness of the Ústí nad Labem Region in 2022. Thanks to the development, today we are dealing with new initiatives and procedures in overcoming barriers and legislative regulations that hinder the effective development of the hydrogen economy in the Czech Republic. We are therefore preparing an update of the Hydrogen Strategy of the Ústí nad Labem Region reflecting the current legislative and legal regulations, for more see the project Development of the Hydrogen Valley in the Ústí nad Labem Region
The activities of the Platform focus, among others, on defining initiatives for adjustments at the level of European legislation, which are perceived as necessary for the development of the hydrogen economy in the conditions of not only the Ústí Region, but the entire Czech Republic, to be actually feasible and local projects to be economically meaningful. Furthermore, to supplement local resources with imports of available renewable energy and renewable hydrogen, including its distribution. Last but not least, attention is paid to the development of hydrogen use in relevant sectors and industries of the local economy.
The Hydrogen Platform of the Ústí nad Labem Region works closely with European partners who are focused on the development of hydrogen valleys in their home countries (we are a member of Hydrogen Europe, S3 Hydrogen Valleys Partnership).
Close cooperation is developed with other hydrogen entities at national level, especially with the Moravian-Silesian Hydrogen Cluster, the Hydrogen Platform of the Karlovy Vary Region and the national HYTEP platform.
